This panel focuses on a new model of urban real estate development that combines: a ground-floor eco-mall featuring the same triple-bottom-line companies featured in the Green Festivals; affordable housing for city workers (teachers, police, firefighters, etc.); on-site gardens producing food for the restaurants in the building; a combined Eco-Gym and Eco-Playground in which all kinetic equipment pumps water to tanks on the roof which feed garden terraces throughout the building. Thompson-Dorfman have done several housing projects for teachers on school district property. Building on their experience we are planning to build affordable housing for city workers on city-owned property, combined with the green features outlined above.
